hooray for darkwave!

i‘m not in vienna right now and won‘t be until january.
nevertheless i‘d like to show you something you should have heard if you‘re into dark shoegaze etc.

this is actually the old band of A PLACE TO BURY STRANGERS ‘ Oliver Ackermann. That guy who builds these uber-expensive extremely dense fuzz pedals (death by audio).

review: NIL DESPERANDUM 11: wilhelm show me the major label showcase@ rhiz

BLACK FOX DANCE: impro-noise-rock, so it seems. i have heard their „black fox dance plays cage“ ep a while back.

CRYSTAL SODA CREAM: dark, wavy post-punk! very good!

A THOUSAND FUEGOS: drone-sacral-folk?

UPPERCLASS SHOPLIFTERS: post-surf-pop w/ a bit of ramones in it

TELLY IS THE TUBE: r&b-schlager!

DUST COVERED CARPET: powerful indie-folk with very nice vocals. vergesst bitte ARCADE FIRE!

BLACK FOX TROPIKAL: really bring in the robinson-club-feeling! tropenschlagereurodancesynthesizerriffgeschwängert

KB9VB: played a stoned version of „the pains of being young, white and male“

JUST FRIENDS AND LOVERS: pretty cool indie rock with instrument exchange!

GOLDSOUNDZ: indiepop, reference to PAVEMENT in their bandname --> great. once more i come to think how awesome lead guitar sounds if it’s a jazzmaster through a big muff. INSTANT J MASCIS!

best quote: „wo ist mein guccibandana?“

review: kb9vb / sex jams @ chelsea

greatest thing ever.

SEX JAMS: they played a great set with lots of new songs (the only ones i knew were nurse jackie, panorama ride and aeroplane waves). as far as i can tell, the new material is great. they‘ve even got a real fast hardcore piece in there. win!

KILLED BY 9V BATTERIES: the second time i actually got to see them, i failed TWICE (because 2 times i was there, they weren‘t!!, march 2009 and may 2011), and the first time i saw them was their set at the WAVES festival in september, which was way too short.

but the set they played yesterday was EPIC! mostly because they played lots of old songs, found a really nice balance between old & new songs etc. i was screaming my lungs out and made some strange movements with my limbs.

if i remember correctly, this was the set list (pretty sure i forgot something):

up when you crash
i was caught by some popular lines
make her parties unique (!)
need more new wrecks
could not find a disease to fight
track to the crux
the pains of being young, white and male
i picture myself in a beautiful home
worst of total anarchy
set something on fire
whatever people say i am, i am
ths city is lit when you‘re on top of it
imitations told us so (!)
i am the dishwasher (!!!)

up next is the Wilhelm show me the Major Label Showcase @ rhiz tomorrow: will probably be great as well

sonik yoof

this could have been the last sonic youth gig ever. which is kind of sad, because i‘ve never seen them live.
at least they played „death valley 69″, „brave men run“ …..aaaaaaand „FLOWER“!

say what you want. most of you would probably still like to marry kim gordon, even if she’s 57. go for it, she’s available again. and i‘m gonna marry lee ranaldo.

lee ranaldo. looking forward to his new solo record. he also said sonic youth could possibly continue playing music. oh well.
